Energy Saving and EPCs

Recent cold winters and ever-increasing fuel bills mean that energy efficiency and insulation are becoming increasingly important considerations for all. Unusual and unpredictable weather associated with global warming both at home and abroad show how important it is to consider our impact on the environment.

Future  increases in fuel prices of 30% are predicted and many of our homes and businesses were built with little or no consideration for energy efficiency. There is much that can be done to save money, increase efficiency and make our properties more pleasant places to be.

Reducing carbon emissions in homes and businesses is an important part of the Government's aim to reduce the impact of climate change. Property owners and managers are being urged to be aware of the most effective improvements, such as fitting loft or cavity wall insulation, but there are always many other less expensive measures which can help. For more information you can contact organisations offering advice, such as local councils www.mendip.gov.uk , the Carbon Trust www.carbontrust.co.uk. or your energy supplier www.goodenergy.co.uk

Everyone can reduce energy consumption and save money and the government has provided money to encourage all sectors. There are  grants and subsidies available to those on low incomes, with children under 16 yrs and older people. local authorities, energy suppliers and organisations like the carbon trust have duties to help, in truth there is so much information around that it can be a little confusing.

AG Property Services can provide an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) similar to those required by the law if you are selling or renting a property. You do not have to be selling or renting to have an EPC and it will tell you all the information required to make the improvements which will save you money and carbon. Prices start from just £40, and use the approved survey method. All elements of the property are recorded for example construction type, double glazing, heating and hot water systems, insulation and many more. The details are input into the approved software programme (RdSAP) and the results are displayed as energy and carbon ratings score and graph, these also show how the ratings can be improved by making the suggested improvements. An example graph is illustrated.

EPCs can only be produced by suitably qualified Energy Assessors. I have been fully qualified since 2007 and have produced over 200 EPCs for homes and businesses, of all ages and size, for private clients, property professionals and local authorities. I have been providing advice and guidance on environmental issues affecting homes and businesses in this area for over 3 years and I want to help you make a difference and save money.
